Translating French images into German
Most French text people need translated never arrives as text. It is restaurant menus, French and Canadian packaging, official forms, museum placards and bilingual signage — pixels, not characters, so there is nothing to select and nothing to paste into a translator.
French uses the Latin alphabet with five accent marks, the cedilla, and the joined ligature œ. PicTranslate reads it straight off the image, translates it into German, and redraws the result in place, so the layout you were looking at is the layout you get back.
What French → German translation has to get right
- ▸Accents and the œ ligature change the word; dropping them during recognition silently produces a different, valid-looking one.
- ▸False friends are the real trap: actuellement is currently, éventuellement is possibly, and getting either wrong reads as fluent nonsense.
- ▸German is the longest of the major European languages here — often a third above English — and its compounds cannot be hyphenated anywhere convenient.
- ▸Capitalisation is grammatical, not stylistic: every noun takes a capital, and lower-casing one is an error rather than a design choice.
- ▸Length is close between French and German, so the layout survives mostly intact — the work is in matching weight and alignment rather than re-fitting the text.
Frequently asked questions
How accurate is French to German image translation?+
PicTranslate runs on top-tier LLMs (GPT-4o, Claude 3.5) combined with French OCR and German context modelling, producing industry-leading accuracy — even on complex layouts and domain-specific terminology.

What kinds of images does this work for?+
French e-commerce listings, manga panels, technical documents, mobile screenshots, menus and signs — any image containing French text can be translated into German.
How long does French → German translation take?+
Typically 3-5 seconds per image. Complex layouts or large files may take a little longer. Batch mode processes up to 20 images in parallel.
