Translating English images into German
Most English text people need translated never arrives as text. It is app interfaces, product listings, packaging and signage from just about anywhere — pixels, not characters, so there is nothing to select and nothing to paste into a translator.
English uses the Latin alphabet with spaces between words, which is the easiest case for OCR and the baseline everything else is measured against. PicTranslate reads it straight off the image, translates it into German, and redraws the result in place, so the layout you were looking at is the layout you get back.
What English → German translation has to get right
- ▸Display typography: condensed, stylised and all-caps marketing type is far harder to read than body text, and it is exactly what sits on banners and packaging.
- ▸German is the longest of the major European languages here — often a third above English — and its compounds cannot be hyphenated anywhere convenient.
- ▸Capitalisation is grammatical, not stylistic: every noun takes a capital, and lower-casing one is an error rather than a design choice.
- ▸Expansion: German runs roughly 30% longer than English, which is the single most common way a translated image breaks — text is re-fitted to the original box rather than allowed to spill out of it.
Frequently asked questions
How accurate is English to German image translation?+
PicTranslate runs on top-tier LLMs (GPT-4o, Claude 3.5) combined with English OCR and German context modelling, producing industry-leading accuracy — even on complex layouts and domain-specific terminology.
Does the translated image keep the original layout?+
Yes. The AI detects the English text's position, font and background, then redraws the German translation in place — the output image is nearly identical in layout to the original.
What kinds of images does this work for?+
English e-commerce listings, manga panels, technical documents, mobile screenshots, menus and signs — any image containing English text can be translated into German.
How long does English → German translation take?+
Typically 3-5 seconds per image. Complex layouts or large files may take a little longer. Batch mode processes up to 20 images in parallel.
