Translating Hindi images into Chinese

Most Hindi text people need translated never arrives as text. It is government notices and certificates, shop signboards, product packaging, railway and bus signage, and WhatsApp forwards — pixels, not characters, so there is nothing to select and nothing to paste into a translator.

Hindi is written in Devanagari, where letters hang from a continuous headline (the shirorekha) and consonants fuse into conjunct clusters. PicTranslate reads it straight off the image, translates it into Chinese, and redraws the result in place, so the layout you were looking at is the layout you get back.

What Hindi → Chinese translation has to get right

  • ▸Conjunct consonants: two or three consonants merge into a single glyph whose shape is not the sum of its parts, and OCR that segments by letter splits them apart.
  • ▸Vowel signs sit above, below, before or after the consonant they belong to — the short i is drawn before a consonant it is pronounced after — so visual order and reading order differ.
  • ▸Mixed Hindi and English on one sign is normal, and so is English written in Devanagari letters; both have to be recognised for what they are.
  • ▸Chinese has no spaces to break a line at, so a long translated string needs a wrap point chosen for it rather than found automatically.
  • ▸Dense glyphs stop being legible below roughly 12px, which matters when the original label was set in a small Latin face.
  • ▸Contraction: Chinese is about 55% shorter than Hindi, so translated text leaves gaps unless it is re-centred in the space the original occupied.

Frequently asked questions

How accurate is Hindi to Chinese image translation?+

PicTranslate runs on top-tier LLMs (GPT-4o, Claude 3.5) combined with Hindi OCR and Chinese context modelling, producing industry-leading accuracy — even on complex layouts and domain-specific terminology.

Does the translated image keep the original layout?+

Yes. The AI detects the Hindi text's position, font and background, then redraws the Chinese translation in place — the output image is nearly identical in layout to the original.

What kinds of images does this work for?+

Hindi e-commerce listings, manga panels, technical documents, mobile screenshots, menus and signs — any image containing Hindi text can be translated into Chinese.

How long does Hindi → Chinese translation take?+

Typically 3-5 seconds per image. Complex layouts or large files may take a little longer. Batch mode processes up to 20 images in parallel.
