Translating Thai images into Chinese
Most Thai text people need translated never arrives as text. It is street food menus, shop and market signs, product labels, travel documents and LINE screenshots — pixels, not characters, so there is nothing to select and nothing to paste into a translator.
Thai is written in its own alphabet with no spaces between words, and vowel and tone marks stack above and below the consonants on up to four levels. PicTranslate reads it straight off the image, translates it into Chinese, and redraws the result in place, so the layout you were looking at is the layout you get back.
What Thai → Chinese translation has to get right
- ▸No spaces between words: spaces in Thai mark the end of a phrase or sentence, not a word, so word boundaries have to be worked out from vocabulary before anything can be translated.
- ▸Stacked marks: tone marks and vowels above and below a consonant are tiny and easily lost on a low-resolution photo, and dropping one changes the word.
- ▸Decorative looped and loopless styles on signs and menus look very different from the textbook letterforms.
- ▸Chinese has no spaces to break a line at, so a long translated string needs a wrap point chosen for it rather than found automatically.
- ▸Dense glyphs stop being legible below roughly 12px, which matters when the original label was set in a small Latin face.
- ▸Contraction: Chinese is about 47% shorter than Thai, so translated text leaves gaps unless it is re-centred in the space the original occupied.
Frequently asked questions
How accurate is Thai to Chinese image translation?+
PicTranslate runs on top-tier LLMs (GPT-4o, Claude 3.5) combined with Thai OCR and Chinese context modelling, producing industry-leading accuracy — even on complex layouts and domain-specific terminology.
Does the translated image keep the original layout?+
Yes. The AI detects the Thai text's position, font and background, then redraws the Chinese translation in place — the output image is nearly identical in layout to the original.
What kinds of images does this work for?+
Thai e-commerce listings, manga panels, technical documents, mobile screenshots, menus and signs — any image containing Thai text can be translated into Chinese.
How long does Thai → Chinese translation take?+
Typically 3-5 seconds per image. Complex layouts or large files may take a little longer. Batch mode processes up to 20 images in parallel.
