Translating Japanese images into Russian
Most Japanese text people need translated never arrives as text. It is manga pages, game and app interfaces, product packaging, station signage and store shelf tags — pixels, not characters, so there is nothing to select and nothing to paste into a translator.
Japanese mixes kanji, hiragana and katakana in one line, runs either horizontally or vertically, and adds furigana reading aids above or beside the characters. PicTranslate reads it straight off the image, translates it into Russian, and redraws the result in place, so the layout you were looking at is the layout you get back.
What Japanese → Russian translation has to get right
- ▸Three scripts interleaved: a single sentence switches between kanji, hiragana and katakana with no separator, and word boundaries have to be inferred.
- ▸Furigana: the small ruby text above a kanji is a pronunciation guide, not content, and OCR that reads it as a second line produces nonsense.
- ▸Vertical columns read right to left, so the reading order is the opposite of the visual scan order a Latin-trained model assumes.
- ▸Case endings change a word depending on its grammatical role, so a label cannot be assembled from translated fragments.
- ▸Russian runs somewhat longer than English and its words break awkwardly, so narrow columns need the wrap points chosen deliberately.
- ▸Expansion: Russian runs roughly 87% longer than Japanese, which is the single most common way a translated image breaks — text is re-fitted to the original box rather than allowed to spill out of it.
Frequently asked questions
How accurate is Japanese to Russian image translation?+
PicTranslate runs on top-tier LLMs (GPT-4o, Claude 3.5) combined with Japanese OCR and Russian context modelling, producing industry-leading accuracy — even on complex layouts and domain-specific terminology.
Does the translated image keep the original layout?+
Yes. The AI detects the Japanese text's position, font and background, then redraws the Russian translation in place — the output image is nearly identical in layout to the original.
What kinds of images does this work for?+
Japanese e-commerce listings, manga panels, technical documents, mobile screenshots, menus and signs — any image containing Japanese text can be translated into Russian.
How long does Japanese → Russian translation take?+
Typically 3-5 seconds per image. Complex layouts or large files may take a little longer. Batch mode processes up to 20 images in parallel.
