Using custom AI prompts to control style and terminology
Available on the Max plan. Lets you override the default translation style for a specific job — preserve brand names, lock in glossary terms, set tone of voice.
What you can control
- Terminology — "Always translate 'oat milk' as 燕麦奶, not 燕麦牛奶."
- Brand and product names — "Keep 'AirFlow Pro' and 'X-Trail' untranslated."
- Tone — "Formal, no contractions." or "Casual and conversational."
- Localisation rules — "Use the metric system in target text."
Prompt structure that works well
Keep instructions imperative and specific. "Translate to Japanese. Keep all model numbers and English brand names. Use polite-but-direct tone (です/ます form, no honorific overload)." Beats vague "translate naturally" prompts by a wide margin.
Custom prompts add ~10-15% to translation time per image. For large batches it's well worth it; for one-off conversions you can skip.
