Translating Thai images into French
Most Thai text people need translated never arrives as text. It is street food menus, shop and market signs, product labels, travel documents and LINE screenshots — pixels, not characters, so there is nothing to select and nothing to paste into a translator.
Thai is written in its own alphabet with no spaces between words, and vowel and tone marks stack above and below the consonants on up to four levels. PicTranslate reads it straight off the image, translates it into French, and redraws the result in place, so the layout you were looking at is the layout you get back.
What Thai → French translation has to get right
- ▸No spaces between words: spaces in Thai mark the end of a phrase or sentence, not a word, so word boundaries have to be worked out from vocabulary before anything can be translated.
- ▸Stacked marks: tone marks and vowels above and below a consonant are tiny and easily lost on a low-resolution photo, and dropping one changes the word.
- ▸Decorative looped and loopless styles on signs and menus look very different from the textbook letterforms.
- ▸French runs roughly a fifth longer than English, which bursts fixed-width labels unless the text is re-fitted to the box.
- ▸Register matters: signage, legal notices and marketing copy each sit at a different level of formality, and flattening them reads wrong.
- ▸Length is close between Thai and French, so the layout survives mostly intact — the work is in matching weight and alignment rather than re-fitting the text.
Frequently asked questions
How accurate is Thai to French image translation?+
PicTranslate runs on top-tier LLMs (GPT-4o, Claude 3.5) combined with Thai OCR and French context modelling, producing industry-leading accuracy — even on complex layouts and domain-specific terminology.
Does the translated image keep the original layout?+
Yes. The AI detects the Thai text's position, font and background, then redraws the French translation in place — the output image is nearly identical in layout to the original.
What kinds of images does this work for?+
Thai e-commerce listings, manga panels, technical documents, mobile screenshots, menus and signs — any image containing Thai text can be translated into French.
How long does Thai → French translation take?+
Typically 3-5 seconds per image. Complex layouts or large files may take a little longer. Batch mode processes up to 20 images in parallel.
