Translating English images into French
Most English text people need translated never arrives as text. It is app interfaces, product listings, packaging and signage from just about anywhere — pixels, not characters, so there is nothing to select and nothing to paste into a translator.
English uses the Latin alphabet with spaces between words, which is the easiest case for OCR and the baseline everything else is measured against. PicTranslate reads it straight off the image, translates it into French, and redraws the result in place, so the layout you were looking at is the layout you get back.
What English → French translation has to get right
- ▸Display typography: condensed, stylised and all-caps marketing type is far harder to read than body text, and it is exactly what sits on banners and packaging.
- ▸French runs roughly a fifth longer than English, which bursts fixed-width labels unless the text is re-fitted to the box.
- ▸Register matters: signage, legal notices and marketing copy each sit at a different level of formality, and flattening them reads wrong.
- ▸Length is close between English and French, so the layout survives mostly intact — the work is in matching weight and alignment rather than re-fitting the text.
Frequently asked questions
How accurate is English to French image translation?+
PicTranslate runs on top-tier LLMs (GPT-4o, Claude 3.5) combined with English OCR and French context modelling, producing industry-leading accuracy — even on complex layouts and domain-specific terminology.
Does the translated image keep the original layout?+
Yes. The AI detects the English text's position, font and background, then redraws the French translation in place — the output image is nearly identical in layout to the original.
What kinds of images does this work for?+
English e-commerce listings, manga panels, technical documents, mobile screenshots, menus and signs — any image containing English text can be translated into French.
How long does English → French translation take?+
Typically 3-5 seconds per image. Complex layouts or large files may take a little longer. Batch mode processes up to 20 images in parallel.
